It involves a rehearsal for the next few Tuesdays at 7.00 pm. Come along to the Church this Tuesday and help Stephen - who is helping us until we find a replacement for Gordon Stevenson.

SAINT MICHAEL'S MAGAZINES - NOW ON COMPACT DISC
A CD has been produced to celebrate the success of the staff and pupils of Saint Michael's College, Irvine and Saint Michael's Academy, Kilwinning from 1921 to 2007. It contains all twelve school magazines produced from 1957 to 1990. Copies cost £5 each and all profits will be divided between Father Martin Chambers' Mission in Ecuador and the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund. Please order your copy from John Walsh.

COMFORT FOR THOSE WHO MOURN
The great and sad mistake of many people, among them even pious persons, is to image that those whom death has taken leave us. They remain! Where are they? In darkness? Oh, no! It is we who are in darkness. We do not see them but they see us. Their eyes, radiant with glory, are fixed upon our eyes full of tears. Oh, infinite consolation! Though invisible to us, our dead are not absent. I have often reflected upon the surest comfort for those who mourn. It is this: a firm faith in the real and continual presence of our loved ones; it is a clear and penetrating conviction that death has not destroyed them, nor carried them away. They are not even absent, but living near to us, transfigured having lost in their glorious change no delicacy of their souls, no tenderness of their hearts, nor especial preference in their affection; on the contrary, having depth and fervour of devotion grown larger a hundredfold. Death is for the good a translation into light, into power, into love. Those who on earth we only ordinary Christians, become prefect; those who were beautiful become good; those who were good become sublime.

  O Holy Spirit, please:
     - replace the tension within me with holy relaxation
     - replace the turbulence within me with a sacred calm
     - replace the anxiety within me with a quiet confidence
     - replace the fear within me with a strong faith
     - replace the bitterness within me with the sweetness of your grace
     - replace the darkness within me with a gentle light
     - replace the coldness within me with a gentle warmth

READINGS
The readings for this weekend's Masses are shown below in English. They are available in eleven other languages
including French, German, Italian, Polish and Spanish by clicking on this link.

First Reading
          Daniel 12:1-3
At that time Michael will stand up, the great prince who mounts guard over your people. There is going to be a time of great distress, unparalleled since nations first came into existence. When that time comes, your own people will be spared, all those whose names are found written in the Book. Of those who lie sleeping in the dust of the earth many will awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting disgrace. The learned will shine as brightly as the vault of heaven, and those who have instructed many in virtue, as bright as stars for all eternity.

Second Reading           Hebrews 10:11-14.18
All the priests stand at their duties every day, offering over and over again the same sacrifices which are quite incapable of taking sins away. Christ, on the other hand, has offered one single sacrifice for sins, and then taken his place for ever, at the right hand of God, where he is now waiting until his enemies are made into a footstool for him. By virtue of that one single offering, he has achieved the eternal perfection of all whom he is sanctifying. When all sins have been forgiven, there can be no more sin offerings.

Gospel           Mark 13:24-32
Jesus said to his disciples: 'In those days, after the time of distress, the sun will be darkened, the moon will lose its brightness, the stars will come falling from heaven and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory; then too he will send the angels to gather his chosen from the four winds, from the ends of the world to the ends of heaven. "Take the fig tree as a parable: as soon as its twigs grow supple and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. So with you when you see these things happening: know that he is near, at the very gates. I tell you solemnly, before this generation has passed away all these things will have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. But as for that day or hour, nobody knows it, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son; no one but the Father.".
