SUNDAY COLLECTION
Last weekend's collection amounted
to £787.85. We are grateful for your generous support of the Parish. Banker's
Orders amount to an average of £4400 per month.
BANKER'S
ORDERS, GIFT AID AND WILLS
Have you thought of using a Bankers Order? It assists
us with the safe handling of cash. Have you signed a Gift Aid Form? If you pay
tax, then every £1 you give to the Parish is worth £1.28 to us. Would
you consider remembering Saint Peter's in your will?
PARISH CENTRE COLLECTION
Last weekend's collection for the Parish Centre amounted to £378.84 - many
thanks.
READERS
Next weekend's readers are Margaret Munn 5.30 pm,
Michael Clarke 10.00 am and Ronnie Cairns 12.00 noon.
PARISH OFFICE
The
Parish Office is normally staffed each weekday from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm. Outside
of these times, there may be someone there or you can leave a message on 464063.
MASS
LEAFLETS
Mass Leaflets are our way of providing you with the Sunday Readings
and the music for Mass. You are welcome to take one home or to the housebound.
If you are not doing so, we would be grateful if you would return the Mass leaflets
to the boxes for use at a later Mass. Please try not to leave bulletins and leaflets
on the seat. It makes you and the Church look untidy. Thanks.
DOORS
OPEN DAY
Saint Peter's is one of Ayrshire's seventy finest buildings open
to the public on Sunday 7 September. The Church will be open - as it usually is
- to visitors from the 12.00 noon Mass till about 4.00 pm.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations
to:
Jack Cambeiro and Melanie Jackson who were married recently
Valerie
McFadyen and Kevin Robertson who are marrying this weekend
Albert and Sarah Carrino who are celebrating their Golden
Wedding and
Bert
and Jean White who are also celebrating their Golden Wedding
May God bless
them all and give them His love.
PARISH VOLUNTEERS MASS CANCELLED
Bishop
Cunningham has had to calncel the parish Volunteers Mass
in Saint Margaret's Cathedral, Ayr on 14 September. A Sunday afternoon has proved
to be difficult for most people.
FATHER
JOHN FUND
Maria Paterson raised £110 for the Father
John Fund from her sponsored cycle around Millport and thanks everyone who
contributed. The Fund continues and we have sent him £1000 for his work
in Africa. It seems that his next port of call may well be the Mission to Immigrants
in Italy that was first intended. Details are proving difficult but are now progressing.
We’ll keep you informed.
MARY'S
MEALS - PLEASE CAN YOU HELP?
Mary's
Meals works with some of the poorest people
in the third world countries such as Malawi, Liberia, Peru, Ecuador, India and
Uganda, amongst others. Mary's
Meals offers
help by collecting unwanted goods. They then send the goods donated as aid or
raise funds through shops for overseas projects. The
annual uplift will be done today at 1.00 pm. Donations can be left in the foyer
of the Parish Centre. Mary's
Meals will
also sell raffle tickets. Currently targeted items are clothing and bedding in
any condition; other items such as shoes, bags, jewellery and accessories, books,
records, CDs, DVDs, bric-a-brac, ornaments, china, kitchenware, pictures, curtains,
small rugs in saleable condition. Mary's
Meals have
to dispose of a large amount of donated items such as furniture which only adds
to its overheads. On average, two black bags of clothing including rags earns
£6. The sum of £5.30 feeds a child for a year! Mary's
Meals could
not survive without your kind donations. Photographs of recent years' visits
by Scottish International
Relief are on the Pictures
page.
CHILDREN'S
LITURGY
The Children's Liturgy will resume for three to five year olds and
Primary 1 to Primary 3 pupils today. The Children's Sacramental Programme has
begun and their Sunday Liturgy will start on the first Sunday of October.
SAINT
ANNE'S GUILD
Saint
Anne's Guild has restarted and new members are welcome. The Guild meets
in the Parish Centre on Tuesday evenings at 7.00 pm.
HEALING CONFERENCE
A
one day Healing Conference and Healing Service will be held on Saturday 13 September
at 10.00 am to 4.00 pm by Monsignor Michael Buckley. It will be held in the Couper
Institute, 86 Clarkston Road, Glasgow. Please bring a packed lunch.
HEALTH
AND SAFETY
We are continuing with Health and Safety improvements. There
is now a five mile per hour speed limit within the Church Grounds. Please be especially
careful when services are about to begin or end and when delivering children to
the Nursery. New first aid equipment is now available at the stall and in the
Parish Centre. The gate to the children’s play area will normally be locked, especially
on a Sunday morning, when not in use. During the Sunday teas, unsupervised children
are continuing to cause damage and throw rubbish from the bins into the play area.
Each Monday morning, the Nursery staff are faced with a necessary clean-up before
the area can be used. Finally we are looking for a few members of a Health and
Safety committee. Please phone the Parish Office if you are interested.
LEGACY
We
acknowledge a legacy of £1000 from the estate of Tom McKay for Parish funds.
Similar legacies for Masses and funeral expenses, for the Saint
Vincent de Paul Society and HCPT The Pilgrimage Trust for handicapped children
have been disbursed from Tom’s estate. Tom also remembered the Missions
in his will.
CANON
MATT HOLIDAY
Canon Matt
will be on holiday from 8 to 25 September.
Father Hayes (463461) and Father Polland (463225) will take emergency calls
and deal with funerals. During Canon
Matt's holiday, Mass will be offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and
Fridays at 10.00 am by Father
Gabriel. There will be no Mass on Tuesday morning, Thursday
evening or Saturday morning. Masses at the weekend will be as usual.
Canon Quinlan will say the Saturday evening Mass and Father Kinsler will say
the Sunday Masses. During his holiday, Canon
Matt will offer Mass for the intentions you have requested including
Annie McCormick, Harry Currie, Rena McNairney, Michael McDermot, Jimmy
Mulhearn, Mrs A Gibbons, Desmond McGarvey, Kenneth McLeod, Michael
Pollock and Jim McLaughlin. If you asked for a special day, your request
will be honoured as far as possible. While he is away, Canon
Matt will baptise the four youngest members of his extended family.
IGNATIAN
PRAYER GROUPS
The Ignatian Prayer Groups meet on the first Wednesday of the month at 7.30
pm, the second Tuesday at 7.30 pm and every last Tuesday at 2.00 pm.
PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS - MISSION STATEMENT
The Catholic Church in Scotland is concerned with the lives, safety, wholeness
and well-being of each individual person within God's purpose for everyone.
It seeks to safeguard the welfare of people of all ages who are involved in
whatever capacity with the Church and its organisations. As a Church community,
we accept that it is the responsibility of all of us, ordained, professed,
paid and voluntary members, to work together to prevent the physical,
sexual, emotional abuse or neglect of children, young people and vulnerable
adults.
