OFFERTORY COLLECTION
Last weekend's Offertory collection amounted to £733.13. We are grateful for your generous support of the Parish. Banker's Orders amount to an average of £4000 per month.

BANKER'S ORDERS, GIFT AID AND WILLS
Have you thought of using a Bankers Order? It assists us with the safe handling of cash. Have you signed a Gift Aid Form? If you pay tax, then every £1 you give to the Parish is worth £1.28 to us. Would you consider remembering Saint Peter's in your will? The recession is hitting everyone. Thanks for the support you manage to give the Parish.

PARISH CENTRE COLLECTION
Last weekend's collection for the Parish Centre amounted to £351.09 - many thanks.

RETIRED PRIESTS' COLLECTION
A special collection for the Retired Priests Fund will be taken on 26 and 27 September. Gift Aid envelopes are available at the back of the Church.

READERS
Next weekend's readers are Pauline Taylor at 5.30 pm, Sarah Guthrie at 10.00 am and Ronnie Cairns at 12 noon.

CANON MATT HOLIDAY
Canon Matt is on holiday till Thursday 24 September. Father Theo is saying the Saturday Masses and Father John Kinsler the Sunday Masses. The Parish Office is open as usual and Father Theo is in residence till the end of the month. Father Hayes (463461) and Father Poland (463225) will cover funerals and so on. Mass on weekdays will be as noted in the bulletin except on Saturdays when there will be no 10.00 am Mass.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA)
RCIA gives an introduction to the belief and practices of the Catholic Church to those who want to know about it or those who want to re-find it. There will be an introductory meeting in the Presbytery on Tuesday 6 October at 7.30 pm. Everyone is welcome to come along. It is a journey that leads to Easter.

CHILDREN'S CONFIRMATION AND FIRST COMMUNION
There will be a meeting in the Parish Centre for the parents involved in Confirmatiion and First Communion on Thursday 1 October at 7.30 pm.

ITALIAN NIGHT
The Italian Night is booked to take place on Friday 27 November. It is mostly a sell-out. If you are still interested, please call the Parish Office during the day on 464063 and ask about the waiting list.

CARITAS IN VERITATE
Caritas in Veritate, the new Encyclical Letter of Pope Benedict on finance, banking and justice in our society, is now published. It can be purchased at the stall for the discounted price of £1.

CROSSHOUSE HOSPITAL
You can contact Reverend Deacon Gordon Tustin on 07515 698 180 to notify him if you or a family member is going into Crosshouse. The hospital is unable do it. A message will be passed on. If you or a family member is housebound, please let us know. Unless told, we don’t know about it.

HELP FOR THE SOLDIERS IN AFGHANISTAN
Father Stephen Sharkey, Padre of the Fourth Rifles in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, has written to thank us for the help we give to the soldiers by the parcels we send. We have now sent over a hundred shoe box parcels. We send sweets - no chocolate please, toiletries - no aerosols please, small tins of tuna and salmon, Supernoodles, cup-a-soup, biscuits and cakes and other odds and ends. We always include rosaries, medals, and so on. We will collect for a few weeks yet with a view to creating some Christmas parcels and are grateful for all you can donate in the box at the stall. Thanks.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY
The Children's Liturgy will continue at 10.00 am Mass for the Preschool Group and the Primary 1 to 3 Group. As the children in the Preschool Group are still very young, some are unable to tell us their names clearly. We ask that next Sunday that you send a note with your child to the next Liturgy Group and we will make a name card for them for the subsequent weeks. Thank you.

PARISH REGISTRATION
We still do not have an up-to-date register of Parishioners - even those who come to Mass. Many of you have filled in the little green forms - thanks - and that is all you have to do. Some haven’t got round to it yet and we would be grateful if you would do it. The Parish website has a link for you to forward your name, address and phone number.

NEW LICENSING LAWS
Due to the new laws, a drinks license for the Parish Centre must be obtained 28 days in advance. If children are to be present, then the number of children must be noted on the application form. There can be no exceptions to the legislation. Please keep this in mind if you wish to use the Parish Centre. We are unable to get a licence at short notice.

PARISH CENTRE
The Parish Centre is available for functions. Please phone Michael or Fiona on 606424 for information and booking forms. Booking conditions must be strictly adhered to.

CHILD AND ADULT PROTECTION CONFERENCE
Child and vulnerable adult protection is very important to the Diocese and is good practice. A Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Conference will be held on Wednesday 23 September in Saint Paul’s Hall, Ayr. The evening will explore the role of the Parish Coordinator. The Police and counsellors will talk on sexual abuse and managing risk. Any parishioner who is interested is welcome to come along.

SOUND SYSTEM IN THE CHURCH
The sound system in the Church continues to cause problems. I have had a professional sound firm in to look at it and taken advice from a consultant who does not supply, but advises and as I suspected there are several faults including the wrong mix of equipment, an underpowered loop system that causes feedback. The system in the gallery is unfit for what is expected of it. Too much is plugged into the box and several more speakers are required in and under the gallery. The system which is in has been added to too often. I will take advice and look to renewing the system. There is a loop system in the Parish Centre which is wrongly installed. Once I know fully what is involved, I’ll get back to you but I know we need to upgrade soon. I feel envelopes coming on since we need the Church windows sealed before the winter comes in.

PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS - MISSION STATEMENT
The Catholic Church in Scotland is concerned with the lives, safety, wholeness and well-being of each individual person within God's purpose for everyone. It seeks to safeguard the welfare of people of all ages who are involved in whatever capacity
with the Church and its organisations. As a Church community, we accept that it is the responsibility of all of us, ordained, professed, paid and voluntary members, to work together to prevent the physical, sexual, emotional abuse or neglect of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
