PAPAL VISIT ARRANGEMENTS
The Holy Father will celebrate Mass in Bellahouston Park, Glasgow on Thursday
16 September at 5.15 pm. The cost of the bus and the Pilgrim Pack - Mass Book,
DVD and so on - for everyone in Scotland is fixed at £20 per person
regardless of distance. Individual transport is not permitted, nor are people
not with a registered group nor unaccompanied under-18s because of Child Protection
Rules. George Poole has agreed to act as the Pilgrim Leader and to travel
with the group. Because of security, the police insist that we hold a list
of the names and contact details of everyone going to Bellahouston. There
are booking forms circulating. Use both sides - or a sheet of paper - to give
your name, address, postcode, land telephone number, mobile telephone number
and email address for the list. It stays with us and will not be shared. George
McGrattan has agreed to collate the names and details of everyone seeking
a ticket. The priests are invited to concelebrate Mass with the Holy Father
and are thus unable to stay with the group or be the Pilgrim Leader. Children
and young people are very welcome but must be with an adult. Please remember
that it will be a long afternoon and evening and is in the open-air when deciding
if you wish to attend. We have been allocated 291 invitations and the Office
for the Papal Visit want to know by Monday August 2 if we will take up our
allocation. Names need to be in this weekend. Further details will be published
as they become available.
HEART SPEAKS UNTO HEART
Heart Speaks Unto Heart is a booklet to prepare for the Papal Visit and is
available free at the stall.
GALLOWAY NEWS
The latest edition of Galloway News, the diocesan magazine, is available at
the stall.
YOUTH FOR LOURDES
A group of young people from the Diocese will travel to Lourdes to assist
the sick and then have a few days holiday together. The dates are 3 to 13
July 2011 and you must be between 16 and 23 years at that time. The cost is
£550. Full details can be obtained from Saint Teresa’s, Glasgow Road,
Dumfries, DG2 9DE, 01387 252603 or SaintTeresa97@yahoo.co.uk.
STAMPS FOR SAINT PATRICK’S MISSIONARY SOCIETY
There is a box at the stall door for your stamps the proceeds of which pays
the salaries of catechists in various parts of Africa.
MARY'S
MEALS - PLEASE
CAN YOU HELP?
Mary's
Meals work
with some of the poorest people in Third World countries. They offer help
by collecting unwanted or unused clothing and bedding - all textiles - and
turning them into funds to carry out their work overseas. For better clothing,
they receive a better price but even from rags they can raise money. Last
year, the clothing collections generated the amazing sum of approximately
£76000! The raffle raised the amazing sum of £154000. Black poly
bags filled with textiles could generate enough funds to feed a child in Malawi
for a year - approximately £6.15. Mary's
Meals
are currently feeding over 400000 worldwide and with your help we hope to
continue expanding our feeding programme. A room in the Parish Centre will
be available all day on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 August for donations. The
van will uplift after the Masses on Sunday 29 August. Mary's
Meals
regrets that they are unable to accept bric-a-brac or collect in the evening.
Raffle tickets will be sold after all Masses that weekend.
VISITORS
Are you visiting us for Mass? Please know that you are very welcome. During
the 10.00 am Mass there is a Children’s Liturgy provided for preschool children,
children in Primaries 1 to 3 and a Sacramental Programme for children in Primary
4. After the 10.00 am Mass, tea, coffee cakes and buns are available in the
Parish Centre. At all of our weekend Masses, we have a second collection for
our Parish Centre debt.
WORLD YOUTH DAY 2011 - MADRID
World Youth Day is an international festival of Catholic faith with Pope Benedict
XVI and thousands of young people from all over the world. In 2011, a group
will be taking part from Galloway Diocese. It will leave on 11 August, travel
through the port of Santander and spend a weekend in the city of Salamanca.
They will then travel to Madrid to be with the Pope from 16 to 21 August.
Once the Pope celebrates the final Mass, the Galloway group will leave Spain
and arrive back home on 23 August. To take part in this event, you must be
sixteen years old by the 31 July 2011. The total cost of the trip will be
£800. Booking forms are available from Father Martin Chambers on 01563
533587 or Mhartino2004@yahoo.co.uk.
To book a place a non-refundable deposit of £50 should be sent to Father
Martin by 1 August 2010.
EVENING SAIL TO ARRAN
The Picnic Sail to Arran on 22 July took place on a splendid evening and was
enjoyed by everyone who was able to come.
RENA
Rena is a project to recycle good furniture to people who are granted new
tenancies. Many of them are homeless and have very little to furnish a house
or flat. If you have furniture to donate, could spare some time to volunteer
office skills or drive the van, please phone 07743 497115 during office hours.
FRESH START
Fresh Start is a project to give starter packs to people moving from homelessness
into permanent housing. The packs include towels, soap, cutlery, light bulbs,
tin openers, soap, toothpaste and so on. Leaflets are available and there
will be a box in the porch. Some of these items will have to be new to be
suitable. Contact Sadie O’Reilly or phone 07563 724421 to volunteer your help
or to ask for more information.
SAINT VINCENT DE
PAUL SOCIETY
The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul would like to invite any interested
person over eighteen years of age to join Saint Peter’s Conference and take
part in the work of the Society in making contact with and assisting those
who need help or support in the local Community of Ardrossan. This involves
attending the weekly meeting on a Monday evening which lasts about one hour,
taking a turn in assisting with the box collection after Sunday Masses and
visiting those who have requested assistance normally in twos no more than
one hour during the week. If you feel you may be able to help with this work,
please give your name and telephone number to any member of the Society. Thank
you for your help.
PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS - MISSION STATEMENT
The Catholic Church in Scotland is concerned with the lives, safety, wholeness
and well-being of each individual person within God's purpose for everyone.
It seeks to safeguard the welfare of people of all ages who are involved in
whatever capacity with
the Church and its organisations. As a Church community, we accept that it
is the responsibility of all of us, ordained, professed, paid and
voluntary members, to work together to prevent the physical, sexual, emotional
abuse or neglect of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
