LENT
The six weeks of Lent prepare us for Easter. We have begun a period of prayer,
penance and almsgiving. The days are precious. When we received the blessed
ashes on Ash Wednesday, we promised
that we are intending to do penance and change our lives. During Lent do without
something you like but don’t need, share something of what you have with the
poor at home or abroad and make a little time for prayer each day. Towards
the end of Lent, there will be Penance Services in each of our local churches.
Make it this year that you celebrate Confession and Forgiveness.
STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Stations of the Cross are prayed on Friday mornings during Lent at 9.40 am.
LENTEN TAIZÉ SERVICES
There will be an opportunity to pray quietly with a few Taizé chants
and some readings in Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, South Crescent Road
at 7.30 pm each Wednesday evening in Lent starting on 29 February.
50/50 CLUB
To those who have still to renew their membership of the 50/50 Club, our next
draw takes place on the last Sunday in February - you need to be in it to
win it. Anyone who wishes to join the 50/50 Club can contact Mrs Myriame Sammons
or telephone 469006.
CHURCH
REPAIRS
Too much rain over the last few months means that the Church doors are damaged.
They have been removed and will be back in place shortly. They need time to
dry out and shrink back to fit properly. We will try to minimise the inconvenience.
We sustained a lot of storm damage to the house, Church, parish centre and
to the
tower in recent storms. We have leaks and more lead was stolen. Repairs are
taking some time and most of the cost - around £8000 - will be carried
by our insurance company. Like everyone else, we will have to find some of
the cost ourselves. Brown envelope donations of £120 bring the total
to £1114.50.
USED PRINTER CARTRIDGES AND OLD MOBILE PHONES
There is now a large green box in the foyer of the Parish Centre and a small
box at the stall where you can place all old printer cartridges and mobile
phones for us to recycle. Through recycling these we can raise some much needed
funds. Thanks.
BLOOD TRANSFUSION SERVICE
The Blood Transfusion Service will be at the Civic Centre, Ardrossan on Tuesday
28 and Wedneday 29 February from 2.30 to 3.45 pm and 5.15 to 7.30 pm.
CHERNOBYL CHILDREN’S LIFELINE
On behalf of the Chernobyl Children's Lifeline, Michael Lafferty thanks everyone
who donated clothing or money towards the charity appeal. It has had so many
donations there is enough for both groups of children. The first group of
sixteen from Ukraine arrives on the 20 February and another group of sixteen
from Belarus arrives on Monday 23 July. Both visits last four weeks. Your
generosity is very much appreciated. We are always looking for new host families
to help look after the children during their visit to Ayrshire. If you think
you could help in any way please contact Michael Lafferty or phone 07813 650411.
Michael is more than happy to give a talk on the charity to any interested
group. More detail can be seen on www.ccll.org.uk/ayrshire.
PATHWAY TO PRAYER 2012
Pathway to Prayer will be held on Saturday 24 March in Saint Meddan’s Church
Hall, Troon from 9.45 am to 4.30 pm. It is a day to explore our relationship
with God through prayer.
WORLD DAY OF PRAYER
This year the World Day of Prayer Service is in Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church,
South Crescent Road, on Friday 2 March at 2.00 pm. Everyone is welcome.
PARISH LOURDES GROUP BINGO
The parish Lourdes Group is having a Bingo on Friday 2 March in the Parish
Centre. Tickets are on sale from any Lourdes Group member or by telephoning
469006 or 601575. All are welcome and we would appreciate any donations of
prizes for this event. To arrange the uplift of prizes please telephone 469006
Many thanks for your support.
SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY LENTEN APPEAL
FOR TOILETRIES
During the weeks of Lent, the Saint Vincent
de Paul Society are once again asking the parishioners of
Saint Peter's to donate both male and female toiletries for use in the Ozanam
Centre in Glasgow. The Ozanam Centre assists the homeless, both male and female
and so any donations of either male or female toiletries would be very gratefully
received. A box will be placed in the Church porch for any donations and we
hope that we can rely on your usual very generous support.
WALKING
WITH THE POOR
Father
Martin Chambers has written a book called Walking With The Poor giving information
on his time in South America. The book is on sale at £8 and all proceeds
are for his Mission Project.
WORLD DAY OF PRAYER

Church, South Crescent Road on Friday 2 March at 2 pm. Everyone is welcome.

School on Mondays from 6.00 to 7.30 pm. Please contact Maria Paterson on or

also looking for new members. Girls aged between seven and ten are welcome
to join the group which meets in Saint Peter’s Parish Centre on Thursdays
from 6.00 to 7.30 pm. Please contact Coral Brady or phone 07950 231241 for

wedding anniversary or a special birthday can be ordered at the stall. The
cost of the parchment and postage is about £30. Please leave plenty
of time.
NEW MISSAL
New Missals containing the new Rite are now available at the stall £7.99
or £9.99.

Mass Books in Polish are available from the stall. Sunday Readings in most
European languages can be printed from the parish website.
VISITORS
Are you visiting us for Mass? Please know that you are very welcome. During
the 10.00 am Mass there is a Children’s Liturgy provided for preschool children,
children in Primaries 1 to 3 and a Sacramental Programme for children in Primary
4. After the 10.00 am Mass, tea, coffee cakes and buns are available in the
Parish Centre. At all of our weekend Masses, we have a second collection for
our Parish Centre debt.
SUNDAY LUNCH FOR SENIOR PARISHIONERS
A Sunday Lunch for senior parishioners is planned - watch this space.
SACRAMENTS OF CONFIRMATION AND FIRST COMMUNION
We have chosen three Sundays this year because of the number of children being
presented for the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Communion. The dates
are Sundays 13, 20 and 27 May. There is a list of the three dates at the back
of the Church. Please fill in your preferred Sunday. I would hope for about
ten children each Sunday because of available room in the Church, but the
choice is completely yours as parents and guardians. Please remember that
you can alter your choice if the circumstances change. Just be sure to let
me know. A few are still to sign up.
PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS - MISSION STATEMENT
The Catholic Church in Scotland is concerned with the lives, safety, wholeness
and well-being of each individual person within God's purpose for everyone.
It seeks to safeguard the welfare of people of all ages who are involved in
whatever capacity with
the Church and its organisations. As a Church community, we accept that it
is the responsibility of all of us, ordained, professed, paid and
voluntary members, to work together to prevent the physical, sexual, emotional
abuse or neglect of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
