SUNDAY MASS TIMES

in Saint Peter's are 5.30 pm Vigil and 10.30 am. Sunday
Mass times in other local parishes can be
seen here.
SACRAMENT OF FORGIVENESS
The Sacrament of Forgiveness is available at any suitable time as well as
from 4.30 pm before the Vigil Mass on Saturday evenings.
FINANCES
Bankers Orders the Parish and Parish Centre amount to £3800 per month.
Every month, we pay off our Parish Centre debt by £3000 and pay a levy
of £1450 to the Diocese. We are grateful for your generous support in
collections. If you can manage a little more from time to time, it would be
a great help. Have you thought of using a Bankers Order? It assists us with
the safe handling of cash. Banker's Orders for the Parish and Centre amount
to an average of £3800 per month. Forms are available. Would you consider
remembering Saint Peter's in your will?
OFFERTORY COLLECTION
Last weekend's Offertory collection amounted to £730.08 - many thanks.
PARISH
CENTRE COLLECTION
Last weekend's collection for the Parish Centre amounted to £278.97
- many thanks.
CHURCH REPAIRS
The help you give for Church repairs by dropping in a white envelope from
time to time is invaluable. We have a continuing task in keeping the Church
wind and watertight. New doors have been installed in the Parish Centre.
RETIRED
PRIESTS' FUND COLLECTION
There will be a special collection next weekend for the Retired Priests' Fund.
GIFT AID
The Inland Revenue now requires us to use a new style of Gift Aid form. These
are available at the back of the Church. If you pay tax, please complete the
new form and return it to the box provided. This allows us to provide the
additional information required on the Gift Aid claim. Gift Aid is a vital
source of income. All that is needed is that you pay tax. You simply declare
that you give funds to the Church. We do the rest. Why not sign a form today?
We get back an extra 25p for every £1 you give the Church in your weekly
collection or by way of a donation. There is no need to cancel or renew it.
We simply claim in the income we receive.
READERS
Next weekend's readers are Ronnie Cairns at 5.30
pm and Margaret Harvey at 10.30 am.
ALTAR SERVERS
Next weekend's altar servers are CC at 5.30 pm and Group 1 at 10.30
am.
CANON MATT
Canon
Matt is on holiday till Wednesday 11 September.
Both Canon Poland (463225) and Father Bell (463461) are at home. The Parish
Office will be open as usual.
SUNDAY TEAS
Next Sunday's teas will be served by Annie Thompson’s team.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY
The Children's Liturgy is celebrated during the Sunday 10.00 am Mass. We have
groups for three to five years, primary 1 and 2 and primary 3. All children
are welcome. The Sacramental Preparation group for Primary 4 children will
begin on Sunday 6 October.
Next week's helpers are Geraldine Butcher and Elise McCormack for the pre-fives
and Frances Gemmell, Gayle Paterson and Maria Paterson for primaries 1 to
3.
SEVENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY OF SAINT PETER'S
Our Church, Saint Peter in Chains, was opened on 2 October 1938 which means
it will be seventy-five years open this October. We are looking to arrange
some small celebration of the event. Were you at the opening Mass? It would
be good to have a list of those who were there - perhaps, your parents or
family friends, and so on. George McGrattan will compile a list. There will
be a celebration Mass at 5.30 pm on Saturday 5 October and a buffet supper
after Mass with music and time to chat. The Saint
Vincent de Paul Society will lay on a bus for Mass and supper. Please
give names to the Parish Office on any member of the Society. I will be looking
for helpers later and some more ideas. Was there a brochure or Order of Service
for the opening of the Church? Does anyone have a copy? We are grateful to
those who have given us old photos associated with our Church's history. More
will be published when we have space. This space restriction does not apply
to the website version of the bulletin so here is a photo of the 1959 Sale
of Work.
MARY’S MEALS CLOTHING AND TEXTILES COLLECTION
The team from Mary's Meals
will be here on the weekend of 21 and 22 September to collect used clothing
and textiles. They cannot take anything else. Have a wardrobe clear-out to
support this important charity.
MARY'S MEALS
Thank you for the backpacks donated to Mary's
Meals. On 27 August, we filled a further 115 backpacks to send to Malawi,
making a total of 950 to date. This is an ongoing project so we are looking
for more backpacks. We are also looking for T-shirts, shorts, skirts and summer
dresses to fit children aged 5 to 12. We also need flip-flops in sizes 10
to 4 to complete some outfits - we can only send these sizes. All items can
be new or in good condition. If you would like further information, please
call 467161.
POPE FRANCIS ON SYRIA
At the Angelus in Saint Peter’s Square on 1 September, speaking about Syria,
Pope Francis said "To this end, brothers and sisters, I have decided
to proclaim for the whole Church on 7 September next, the vigil of the birth
of Mary, Queen of Peace, a day of fasting and prayer for peace in Syria, the
Middle East and throughout the world and I also invite each person, including
our fellow Christians, followers of other religions
and all men of good will, to participate in whatever way they can in this
initiative.".
This came a bit late but a time of prayer for Syria is an essential this
week.
